Machinist

Description

The Machinist will setup and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Includes precision instrument makers who fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining procedures.

Essential Functions


• Calculate dimensions of workpieces, products or equipment
• Measure dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications
• Machine parts to specifications, using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers or grinders
• Operate metal, plastic forming, grinding and cutting equipment and mount attachments or tools onto production equipment
• Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories or materials onto machines
• Measure, examine or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications using precision instruments
• Maintain machine tools in proper operational condition
• Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings or engineering information to determine methods or sequences of operations to fabricate products
• Support metalworking projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection and testing, using knowledge of machine functions, metal properties and mathematics
• Perform physical activities that require use of arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, standing for long periods of time and handling of materials

Requirements


• Demonstrate problem sensitivity: the ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
• Arm-Hand steadiness: the ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position
• Mathematical reasoning: the ability to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem
• Control precision: the ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine to exact position
• Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools
• Haas CNC machine experience Preferred
• Production and Processing knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and costs
• 5+ years of industrial machinist experience
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
